Neuroprotective Research Tissue Protection β-Common Receptor Cellular Signalling

ARA-290 unlocks a lesser-known side of EPO biology - the tissue-protective signalling pathway that operates independently of red blood cell production.

What is ARA-290?

ARA-290 is a synthetic 11-amino-acid peptide derived from a specific region of erythropoietin (EPO). It has been investigated for tissue-protective and neuroprotective signalling associated with EPO biology, particularly through pathways involving the β-common receptor (βcR/CD131).

Why is ARA-290 interesting?

EPO is widely known for its role in stimulating red-blood-cell production. Research has also identified tissue-protective signalling associated with EPO that is distinct from its classical erythropoietic activity. ARA-290 was developed around this area of biology, making it an interesting research tool for investigating cell survival, tissue protection and inflammatory signalling.

ARA-290 & β-Common Receptor Research

The β-common receptor, also known as CD131, has been investigated in relation to cellular survival and tissue-protective pathways. ARA-290 provides researchers with an opportunity to investigate this signalling system independently of many of the classical effects associated with EPO.

ARA-290 & Neurobiology

Nervous tissue is particularly sensitive to inflammatory signalling, oxidative stress and cellular injury. ARA-290 has therefore been investigated in experimental neurological models, including research involving nerve injury and neuroinflammatory processes.

ARA-290 & Peripheral Nerve Research

Peripheral nerve biology is another important research area. Researchers have investigated whether tissue-protective signalling can influence cellular responses following nerve stress or injury. This has created interest in ARA-290 within experimental research involving neuropathy, nerve function and neuroinflammation.

ARA-290 & Cellular Protection

Experimental research has investigated ARA-290 in relation to:

  • Cell survival
  • Inflammatory signalling
  • Oxidative stress
  • Neuroprotection
  • Tissue protection
  • Nerve biology

What makes ARA-290 different?

ARA-290 is particularly interesting because it allows researchers to investigate an EPO-derived tissue-protective pathway without simply studying the classical role of EPO in red-blood-cell production.
