KPV proves that size isn’t everything - this three-amino-acid sequence derived from α-MSH has generated significant interest across inflammatory and immune signalling research.
What is KPV?
KPV is a naturally occurring three-amino-acid peptide sequence derived from alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Its name represents its amino-acid sequence: Lysine-Proline-Valine. Despite its very small structure, KPV has attracted research interest because of experimental findings involving inflammatory signalling, immune responses, gastrointestinal biology and cellular communication.
Why is KPV interesting?
α-MSH is involved in several biological processes, including regulation of inflammatory and immune responses. Research has demonstrated that the C-terminal KPV sequence retains certain biological properties associated with α-MSH, particularly in experimental models of inflammation.
KPV & Inflammatory Research
Inflammation involves a complex network of cytokines, immune cells and intracellular signalling pathways. Experimental studies have investigated KPV in models of inflammation and have reported effects involving inflammatory-cell migration and cytokine-related signalling. Research has particularly explored the relationship between KPV and IL-1β-associated inflammatory activity.
KPV & NF-κB Research
NF-κB is an important transcriptional regulator involved in inflammatory responses. Research into α-MSH-derived peptides has investigated effects on NF-κB-related signalling and the production of inflammatory mediators. These findings provide a basis for further research into how very small peptide sequences can influence inflammatory pathways.
KPV & Gastrointestinal Research
The gastrointestinal tract contains extensive immune and inflammatory signalling systems. KPV has been investigated in experimental gastrointestinal models, where researchers have examined its interaction with inflammatory and tissue-response pathways.
KPV & Skin Research
Inflammatory signalling is also important in skin biology. KPV and related α-MSH-derived peptides have therefore been investigated in experimental models involving cutaneous inflammation and cellular responses.
